Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 21, 2026 · Applies to the Starryfable iOS app and this website.
Starryfable has no accounts and no server that holds your work. What you make stays on your iPhone. This page describes exactly what that means, and names the few things that do leave the device.
Not final yet: The publisher's registered name and address are not published here yet, and this policy is not complete without them. It will be updated before Starryfable is submitted to the App Store. Until then, treat this as a factual description of the app's behaviour rather than a finished legal document.
What stays on your device
All of it, unless you choose otherwise:
- Your constellations — the stars you connected, the lines, the name, the story, and the artwork.
- Unfinished drafts, favourites, albums, and the themes you have used.
- Your birth sky: the date and the city you entered.
- Memory sky dates and cities.
- Constellation files other people have sent you, once you import them.
- Your settings, including notification preferences.
There is no sign-up, no profile, and no copy of any of this on a server we run. Deleting the app deletes what is stored on that device, and we have nothing to delete on our side.
Location and device motion
To draw the sky that is actually above you, the app reads your location and the way you are holding the phone. Both are used on the device, in the moment, to position the stars. Neither is transmitted anywhere by the app. iOS shows you the same thing when it asks for permission:
“Your location keeps the sky aligned to where you are. It never leaves your device.”
You can refuse location access and still use the rest of the app. For memory skies you pick a city from a list built into the app — no search is sent to any service, so nothing about where you were is looked up online.
What does leave the device
Three things. Everything else on this page stays where it is, unless you share it yourself.
1. Anonymous usage counts
So the app can be improved, it records which screens and actions get used — for example that a constellation was saved, that a work was shared, or that the Pro screen was opened. These are counts of events, not content.
Alongside an event, the app sends only a small number of technical values: for a share, the card layout, the aspect ratio and the pixel size; for a purchase, whether the plan was monthly or yearly. The analytics provider also receives standard technical information such as the app version, the operating system version, the device model and the language setting.
Never included: the name or story of a constellation, the shape you drew, your birthday, your city, your location, your dedication text, anything you typed into support, or your email address.
This is handled by TelemetryDeck. Until the production configuration is set, no usage events are sent at all.
2. Purchases
If you subscribe to Pro, the payment is made to Apple. We never see your card, your billing address, or your Apple Account email. To know whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, which receives the purchase receipt and an anonymous identifier generated on your device. The app does not send your name, your email address, or any profile information to RevenueCat.
3. Messages you send us
If you write to support, we receive whatever you put in that email — including your email address, because that is how email works. We use it to answer you and for nothing else. We do not add it to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share it. We keep the message only as long as we need it to deal with what you raised, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
The app's support screen can prepare a draft for you with the app and iOS versions filled in. It only opens a draft in your mail app. It never sends anything by itself, and it never attaches your works, your location, your birthday, or a device identifier.
What you share on purpose
Sharing always starts with you choosing to do it. What travels depends on which way you share:
| How you share | What it contains |
|---|---|
| A constellation file (.starryfable) | The drawing, its name, and its story. Not the date, not your location or city, not your dedication message. |
| An exported image | The artwork, the name, your story, and — printed on the card itself — the city and the date. You can see it before you send it. |
| An exported film | The artwork and the name and message you chose to show. |
Once you hand a file or image to another app — a messaging app, a social app, a photo library — that app's own rules apply to it, not ours. Starryfable has no feed, no public gallery and no ranking, and it never posts anything on your behalf.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled by the app on your own device. There is no push server, so no notification data travels over the network. You can turn them off in the app's settings or in iOS Settings.
Advertising
There is none. Starryfable contains no advertising SDK, shows no ads, and does not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
This website
These pages have no sign-up form and collect no personal information. Your language choice is remembered in your own browser and is never sent to us. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and keep the service available.
Children
Starryfable is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app asks for no personal details at all beyond what you choose to type into your own works.
Your choices
- Refuse or withdraw location access in iOS Settings — the rest of the app keeps working.
- Turn notifications off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Delete individual works in the library, or delete the app to remove everything on that device.
- Ask us to delete any correspondence you have sent to support.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through Apple. Deleting the app does not cancel one.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Changes that affect what leaves your device will be described in the app as well, not only here.
